Darth Vader used this prototype, the basis for the frighteningly effective TIE Interceptor, in the Battle of Yavin. Unlike all other TIE Fighters, this prototype features a deflector shield generator and a simple hyperdrive. Vader's TIE Advanced is armed with heavy dual blaster cannons, but has no life support systems. The TIE Advanced features a dural steel alloy shell, extended aft deck and unique solar panel wings. The TIE Advanced quickly became one of Darth Vader's ships of choice. Like all TIE ships, the prototype's propulsion system consists of dual ion engines. Its solar ionization reactor is considered to be significantly more powerful than that of standard TIE fighters. The TIE Advanced has proven itself in combat as it can survive many direct hits.
